Stephanie is a Brazilian-American, Licensed Associate Mental Health Counselor (APC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Georgia State University, followed by her Master’s Degree at Mercer University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Her clinical experience has included working in crisis intervention in an ER setting, conducting individual and group counseling sessions in an inpatient atmosphere, working with tweens and teens in a clubhouse environment, and providing individual and group therapy for an outpatient community service board.
She believes in the importance of the therapeutic alliance between counselor and client, and acknowledges the immense courage it takes to seek services and explore one’s innermost world within sessions. Creating a safe environment to process through stressors, identifying goals, working through past traumas, examining interpersonal relationships, working on substance abuse themes, and exploring clients’ sense of self-identity are her goals in her role as a clinician.
Stephanie does not believe in a one-size-fits-all style to psychotherapy, and employs a client-tailored approach to better serve each individual. Throughout the therapeutic process, she works with her clients to determine the best treatment methods suited to their needs. Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Existential theories are several of the modalities that she utilizes in sessions. Stephanie works with her clients to think critically about their lived experiences, in order to aid each individual in reaching a place of self-acceptance and self- understanding.
Stephanie is fluent in English and Portuguese, and proficient in Spanish. She offers counseling in all three languages in the office or through online sessions.
